Challenge
By 2017, BLL had built genuine market authority: 15+ years in the industrial coating and painting industry, 100+ product categories, partnerships with leading European technology manufacturers – IMEL, GEICO, OMSG, Atlas Copco – and a track record of 30+ unique engineering solutions delivered across the most demanding industrial environments in Russia.
The problem was not capability. The problem was brand structure. BLL occupied two distinct business positions simultaneously – sourcing and supplying European coating equipment, and delivering full-cycle engineering projects – without the architecture to communicate either clearly. Internally, new directions were emerging: proprietary MES software, Industry 4.0 solutions, digital process management. The existing brand had no framework to carry them.
The visual identity compounded the confusion: proportional imbalances in the wordmark, a colour palette working against coherence, a mark that couldn't scale across the range of industrial applications the company actually operated in. The brief was architectural, not cosmetic: clarify what BLL is, build a system that can hold multiple business directions without dilution, and create a visual language that earns authority in serious industrial procurement contexts.
Insight
Industrial B2B procurement evaluates suppliers on two axes: supply reliability – the right equipment, at scale, on time – and engineering competence – the ability to solve problems others can't. BLL had strong credentials on both. But a brand that tries to be everything is remembered as nothing.
The key move was not to compress all of BLL's capabilities into a single identity – it was to build a tiered architecture that gives each direction its own positioning space, while maintaining a powerful corporate brand that communicates consolidated authority.
Brand Architecture
BLL – corporate brand. The authority in sourcing and supplying high-performance European coating equipment. The lead identity in partnership communications and procurement catalogues.
BLL Engineering – sub-brand. Marks complex project work: turnkey coating line design and installation, conveyor system integration, commissioning, service, maintenance.
BLL Soft / BLL Digital – sub-brand. Positions proprietary software capabilities: MES systems and Industry 4.0 solutions.
BLL-MES – product brand. The flagship software product with its own identity, justified by standalone commercial value.
Identity
Built to work at industrial scale – across procurement catalogues, engineering documentation, warehouse and factory environments, exhibition stands, and digital interfaces. The wordmark is rebuilt with corrected proportions and clean legibility at small scale and in monochrome applications. The colour system is hierarchical: primary blue communicates engineering authority and institutional credibility; the neutral system provides flexibility across a wide range of applications. Typography is internationally neutral and technically precise – readable across Russian and Latin character sets.
Applications
Corporate stationery · Presentation templates · Environmental signage · Exhibition materials · Product and technical documentation · Digital interfaces. From the business card at a procurement meeting to the signage on a production floor a client tours before signing.
